The Down & Dirty Details
Competition Set Up
The axe throwing competition will be comprised of both standard, regulation lane-way throwing, which will function in a cumulative point tally, as well as some backwoods challenges to test your dexterity, axe handling skills, and some wilderness know-how. We are anticipating a fun-filled experience that will give everyone the opportunity to play as much as possible!
Commitment to the Environment
We live in a beautiful and sensitive environment. All of our guests are required to adhere to our land use guidelines. This ensures that we keep the lake and the forest in the most pristine condition possible, as well as ensuring the safety of all future campers. If this is your first time in the woods, or your first experience with sustainable practices, don't worry - we're happy to help everyone learn about low-impact wilderness camping.
As part of your orientation upon arrival at camp, we will go over these guidelines as a group, but please take a few minutes to review them on our website: https://www.clearlakeecoretreat.com/land-use-guidelines.html
Remote Location
We are a three hour drive from Toronto. We will meet you at the Lost Channel Marina where you will be treated to parking and a beverage, as we wait for everyone to arrive. From there the water taxi will whisk you 3 kms along the scenic Pickerel River, and drop you off at our dock. Your guides for the weekend will lead you through trails in our beautiful old growth forest, and finally a very short (5 min) canoe ride to your secluded camp. You'll be the only campers at the only campsite on the entire lake. It's all yours!
Keeping our remoteness in mind - there are no out trips for provisions. Make sure that you bring all necessities with you. Look here for a packing list.
Shared Accommodation
For the two nights some folks will be sharing a tent with another competitor. It's a six person tent, and there will be two of you in it. If you are attending with a friend, please let us know that you've got an automatic roomie, or you can choose who you bunk with on the trip over. Two people will have their own tent which will not be on a platform, but still level and comfy! We will strive to make sure that everyone feels comfortable.
Meals
We will be providing all of your meals and snacks. The menu for the weekend will be decided in conjunction with participants closer to the event dates. Please make sure that if you have any allergies, sensitivities, or dietary restrictions that you note this in your sign-up form.
Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages are not included in the admission price. BYOB if you wish, but we will be encouraging responsible consumption, especially during activities involving the throwing of sharp objects!
Pets
Although we are usually a dog-friendly retreat, for this event we will not be allowing pets.
Rain or Shine
CLAW will be running Saturday August 3 to Monday August 5, 2019 regardless of weather conditions. Please be prepared for the forecasted weather and for the potential of bugs. We will update participants regarding bug conditions prior to the weekend.
