Why choose Clear Lake Eco Retreat?
Service
Our aim is to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Camp is set up for you before your arrival. Guides pick you up at Ess Narrows Landing and assist with the heavy lifting. Staff are available throughout your stay to ensure that you have all equipment that you need and to answer any questions that may arise.
Seclusion
We are the only property on Clear Lake and provide an exclusive campsite for the use of one party at a time. There is no road access to the retreat and the nearest cottage is half a kilometer away. With over half a kilometer of private shoreline, your view is nothing but pristine wilderness and will never be spoiled by other buildings.
Our commitment to land preservation
We are committed to keeping our structures cozy and comfortable without impacting the natural scenery. To protect the soil and water, we do not use harsh chemicals, cleaners or pesticides. Our structures are constructed of as many reclaimed materials as possible. We are content to stay off grid, and strive for self sufficiency in everything we do.
You can read our Land Use Guidelines here.
Customized Trips
We work with you to find out what type of trip you would like, and customize the experience to meet your needs and desires. Tell us your interests when booking to give us an opportunity to fulfill your expectations from the moment you arrive.
All Equipment is Included
Everything you need to have a comfortable stay is included in the cost of your trip:
- canoes, kayaks, paddles, and safety equipment;
- tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, pillows and blankets;
- full outdoor kitchen including dishes, cutlery, pots & pans, stove and fuel;
- sustainably harvested firewood;
- bio-sand filtered drinking water.
Small Groups
Our MAXIMUM number of trippers on a guided canoe trip is 6 people, and 12 people for a lakefront rental. We only run one group on one trip at a time to avoid overcrowding. Small groups cause less impact to the environment, allow you to camp in a wider variety of sites, and are more conducive to viewing wildlife.
Fishing
The bass and pike fishing here is some of the best there is. All you need is a hook. Please bring your own pole, tackle and valid Ontario fishing license if you intend to fish.
Wildlife
There are opportunities to take great pictures around every corner. Wildlife commonly seen in the area include deer, eagles, osprey, lizards, turtles, beavers, otters, mink and much much more...
