Canoe Trip Details
Your multi-day back country canoe trip starts at noon at the Ess Narrows Landing. We will meet you there to shuttle you and your bags by boat to the Clear Lake Eco Retreat.
Once you arrive at our facilities, you'll enjoy a lunch of finger foods while we give you a brief orientation and canoe lesson. We'll make sure that all your questions are answered, that you've brought all the essentials, signed our waiver, and that know what to expect on the rest of your trip. We'll be thorough yet quick. We want to get on the water just as much as you do.
By early afternoon, with expert paddling lessons, you'll be competent in a canoe even if you've never paddled before. Now you are ready to go on the adventure of a lifetime. Take to the water on beautiful Clear Lake, your gateway to a massive expanse of wilderness larger than Killarney Provincial Park, and less traveled than Algonquin.
The first day's paddle is a short one, leaving you plenty of energy for the days ahead. Your guide will bring you ashore several kilometers from where you started, set up your camp for the night, start a fire, and begin dinner preparations. Use this down time enjoy a swim, explore the woods, or catch a few fish. It's completely up to you! A warm home cooked meal and sweet fire roasted dessert are yours to enjoy lakeside. We provide your tent, sleeping bag, and air mattress, so you can have a dry, warm, comfortable sleep when you're finished star gazing for the night.
Fresh brewed coffee and a hot breakfast are yours to savor in the morning. During a 3 day trip, you will keep the same camp for both nights, to allow for more free time to paddle and explore the surrounding lakes and woods. You may choose to go on a hike, practice your paddling, spend the day fishing, find some great photos, or just relax at camp. It's your choice. Ask your guide about the all local attractions. They will be happy to answer any questions, and will provide you with lunch and a hot dinner.
Five day (or longer) trips will take down and pack up camp each morning, in order to reach further into the back country. A five day trip gives you the chance to paddle areas that are traditionally thought of as 'fly in only'. Don't forget your fishing gear, the lunkers in these back country lakes are an opportunity that you won't want to miss!
On your final day with us, the camp will be taken down and packed up while you enjoy your breakfast and coffee. We'll set a leisurely course back to Clear Lake, making sure you and your belongings are back to your vehicle by 1 pm.
